Launching a Hybrid Press

Today’s success story comes to us from certified book coach Caroline Topperman. She’s launched a hybrid boutique press and is also hosting a writing retreat this fall in Ontario. Read on to learn more!

Caroline, you’ve launched a hybrid press, a book coaching business, AND started marketing for a writing retreat. Phew! What did you do to celebrate these successes?

The retreat will be the celebration for starting a cross-border press. It will be the first time that my partner and I will meet in person. Right now we are working hard to accommodate our clients, so there hasn't been much time for the type of celebrating where you get to relax.

What are the next steps in your career?

Continuing to improve my book coaching skills, and to grow my press. I'm very excited about this new chapter. All of my skills and interests are coming together, and I'm finally seeing a clear path for myself.

On another note, my memoir is currently with an agent who is recommending that his agency take me on as a client. I'm in the process of working on another book, and hope that it gets picked up as well.

Why would you recommend book coaching or the book coach certification program to get to this point?

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started my certification but as I was going through the course, I started using the Blueprint for my work, and found it very helpful. As a coach, it has provided me with terms and processes that my clients have found to be useful.

Indirectly, coaching has helped me focus. I have a lot of ideas and "next steps" floating around in my head, but this forces me to slow down, evaluate, and then move forward.

Over the past year and a half or so, I've met a lot of coaches. What I find most interesting, maybe impressive, is that everyone is coming from different backgrounds, and interests, and yet, we are all finding common ground. Knowing other coaches hasn't weakened my business but rather strengthened it.
